Polish Border Guard to raise a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border

by DignityNews.eu

The Border Guard has signed three contracts for the construction of a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border – announced the deputy minister of internal affairs and administration Maciej Wąsik and the deputy commander-in-chief of the Border Guard, General of a Brigade Wioleta Gorzkowska.

Gen. Gorzkowska emphasizes that the construction of a fence on the Polish-Belarusian border is an absolute necessity and an urgent investment. In her opinion, it is “a strategic investment not only from the point of view of the implementation of the statutory tasks of the Border Guard, which include the protection of the inviolability of Polish borders, but also a critical investment from the perspective of other projects implemented so far on the border”.

The steel spans will be manufactured by a consortium of three companies including Polimex Mostostal JSC (leader of the consortium), Mostostal Siedlce Ltd and Węglokoks JSC. The construction works have been ordered to two contractors: Budimex S.A. and a consortium of companies Unibep JSC and Budrex Ltd

Over 50 tons of steel will be used to raise the 186-kilometer section. The fence will consist of nearly 41,000 steel spans and the same number of H240 steel poles. The fence will contain 100 service gates spans and 22 opening gates spans, which will enable the migration of animals.

The fence will be completed by the end of June 2022 and the value of the signed contracts is PLN 523 million.
