Poland to open the labor market for refugees from Ukraine and offer family benefits

Marlena Maląg, the minister of family and social policy, informed the public that the Polish government decided to open the labor market to Ukrainian citizens who came to Poland due to the Russian invasion. She added that refugees from Ukraine are entitled to family benefits in Poland.

The government is preparing amendments that will immediately open the labor market to refugees from Ukraine. The relevant provisions will be included in a special act – said the minister.

The proposed regulations will simplify the admission of refugees to work as much as possible. Ukrainians, who already entered Poland, will get the right to work. The employer will only be required to notify the employment office that he is employing a citizen of Ukraine.

“Citizens of Ukraine who cross the borders will be able to enter labor market by obtaining the stamp that allows residing legally in the territory of the Republic of Poland – said the minister about new regulations.

The government has been agreed new solutions with employers and public employment services. The aim of the changes is cooperation between the government and entrepreneurs in order to help Ukrainians to find a possible job in a very efficient way.

The Minister of Family and Social Policy emphasized that the refugees from Ukraine who cross the Polish-Ukrainian border and stay legally in Poland have the right to family benefits, including the Family 500+ program.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy does not yet provide data on the number of Ukrainian children who will be eligible for benefits. According to the data of the Border Guard, the Polish border was crossed by over 430,000 refugees from Ukraine. They are leaving the country due to the invasion of Russian troops.
