Almost 300 teachers participated in the training “Giants of science. Forgotten Polish scientists and inventors” organized by the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and the Ministry of Education and Science. At the Centralny Przystanek Historia IPN in Warsaw, several dozen training participants received the certificates, as well as the latest educational package of the Institute of National Remembrance, “Giants of Science” from the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Karol Nawrocki and the Minister of Education and Science, Przemysław Czarnek.

The theme of this year’s series of training for teachers, titled “Giants of science. Forgotten Polish scientists and inventors” was the contribution of Polish scientists to the development of the world’s technical civilization.

They were attended not only by teachers of humanities but also of science, such as mathematics and physics. The aim of the training was to present the profiles of selected Polish scientists and explorers, as well as their achievements and impact on the development of civilization.

“Awareness of what contribution Poland and Poles have had in the development of Europe, in the development of the world, and in the development of science over the last century, is what we lack and it is good that teachers acquire this knowledge at the Institute of National Remembrance. They will be able to pass this knowledge to young generations”, said Przemysław Czarnek.

Considering the participants of the training program, the “Giants of Science” educational package was created presenting 20 selected characters. The materials emphasize building the associations between the characters and their invention or discovery while teaching at school, as well as explaining innovation and the importance of their scientific achievements. It also explained what particular inventions and discoveries were used.

According to the Institute of National Remembrance, the educational package consists of 20 infographics presenting selected “giants of science”. Special educational cards have been added to the infographics, which will make it easier to introduce the topic in the lesson.
