War reparations for Poland. Government planning a major information campaign in Germany

by DignityNews.eu

The Polish government will carry out a large information campaign in Germany related to war reparations. „It will take place in the spring. We will distribute many thousands of copies of the war reparations report to universities”, said deputy head of the Foreign Ministry Arkadiusz Mularczyk.

Since Poland in September 2022 presented a report on the losses incurred during World War II due to German aggression, the topic of war reparations has gained pace. According to expert calculations, Polish losses exceeded PLN 6.2 trillion. Germany officially refuses to enter talks on reparations.

Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk spoke about the government’s actions in this matter on Polish Radio 24.

„They include the publication of the report on 1 September, then the sending of a diplomatic note by the Polish government, then the appointment of me by the Prime Minister as Plenipotentiary for Reparations, and then a very active international agenda – a number of visits, above all to the US Congress, to the UN in New York, in Geneva, also initiatives in the Council of Europe, the preparation of a draft resolution, which is currently under way, as well as visits to capitals: in Rome, Athens, Belgrade, and also earlier in Berlin I had talks”, reported the Deputy Foreign Minister.

He emphasised that the topic is noticed in Germany, many Germans, including German politicians, are considering how to approach it, whether to offer Poland compensation for the still living victims of Germany’s aggression against Poland or to do it differently.

Deputy Minister Mularczyk also said that he had met politicians in Germany who agreed with him that Poland deserves reparations, only they cannot say it out loud because they would have problems.

„This is a certain process. We are before a big information campaign in Germany. It will take place in the spring. We will send out many thousands of copies of the reports to universities”, announced Mularczyk.
