Student of the Jagiellonian University created a medical platform for refugees from Ukraine

by DignityNews.eu
Witold Wydmański, a computer science student at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, has created an internet platform that connects doctors with refugees from Ukraine who need help. The website is dedicated to patients who need a medical consultation, have discontinued treatment in Ukraine or are running out of medication.

The Doctors for Ukraine website is available in Polish and Ukrainian. An English version will also be available soon. Ukrainians fleeing the war can find a suitable specialist there and arrange a free visit. If the health condition requires hospitalization, the person will be referred to an appropriate hospital.

Wydmański explained that the idea for the portal was given to him by his dad, an oncologist. As a specialist doctor, he wanted to help refugees from Ukraine in the best possible way, i.e. by offering free medical care. This is important as for many refugees, time is a critical factor. Many of them have probably had to discontinue treatment that should be continued. He posted a Facebook post but quickly realized that in this way he has little chance of reaching the people who need it the most.

The creator of the platform adds that there are a lot of great doctors in Poland who offer their help but do not know how to reach people who need it.

So, I quickly made a website that can help, hoping that if we gather all of them in one place, we might be able to reach as many people in need as possible. In this way, the lekarzedlaukrainy.pl website was created, which connects doctors from all over Poland offering free medical assistance to refugees”, emphasizes the student.

So far, dozens of medics have offered their help. They include physiotherapists, gastroenterologists, gynecologists, radiologists, psychiatrists, radiotherapists oncology, family doctors, dentists and diabetologists. All doctors from all over Poland who want to take part in the campaign can register at lekarzedlaukrainy.pl/register.
