Rzeszów-Jasionka. The airport that the world has heard about

by Dignity News
More than 730,000 passengers were served by Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport in 2022. The results recorded in the second half of the year were the best in the airport’s history, despite the fact that several thousand aircraft carrying aid for Ukraine were received in Jasionka in parallel with scheduled flights. The summer route network was record-breaking, with 20 international and three domestic routes.

“The result we achieved, i.e. 95 % of the passenger traffic from the best year in the history of our industry in 2019, is a reason for great satisfaction, nevertheless no number can reflect what happened at our airport last year”, says Adam Hamryszczak, CEO of Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport.

“Our role in the aftermath of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine brought us a huge number of challenges, which we successfully dealt with. In these circumstances, I consider maintaining the status of a civil airport and the uninterrupted operation of scheduled flights, as well as the consistent development of the network of regular and charter flights, to be our greatest success”, emphasises Adam Hamryszczak.

Among the carriers operating regular flights to and from Jasionka in 2022, Ryanair has retained its leading position. The Irish airline’s Boeing 737s carried nearly 290,000 passengers, PLL LOT handled over 200,000 passengers, while Wizz Air handled 82,000.

London (188,000) and Warsaw (178,000) remained the most popular destinations, while among sunny destinations the Turkish Antalya (44,000) was the most popular.

The geopolitical situation caused Jasionka Airport to host many personalities from all over the world, including dozens of presidents and prime ministers. Visitors to the port near Rzeszów included US President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leynen and Head of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola. Also, the world-famous entrepreneurs such as Richard Branson, as well as show business stars Bono and The Edge from the band U2, and actor Sean Penn landed in Jasionka.
