Record in renewable energy production. PGE produced electricity for 860,000 households

by DignityNews.eu

Polish Energy Group (PGE) produced a record amount of energy from wind, solar and water in 2022. The company generated 1,931 GWh, 5.3 % more than a year earlier. This amount of energy is able to cover the annual demand for electricity for 860,000 households.

The PGE Group currently has 24 photovoltaic power plants, of which the total capacity of installations built or in the final stage of construction will reach approximately 500 MW by the end of 2023. PGE also produces green energy at 20 wind farms, comprising 342 windmills with a total installed capacity of 772 MW.

The company also has 29 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 96 MW and four pumped storage plants with a total capacity of 1,543 MW. The latter can not only produce, but also store electricity, supporting the operation of the country’s energy system.

“Energy from renewable sources is not burdened by carbon dioxide emission charges, which are increasing year on year, thus raising the cost of energy production. Green energy therefore means not only more favourable electricity prices, but also energy security and independence, which we are successively increasing thanks to new production capacities based on wind, water and sun”, says Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE.

According to the adopted strategy, by 2030 PGE will have a total of 3 GW of photovoltaic capacity, 1.7 GW of onshore wind power and 2.5 GW of offshore wind power in the Baltic Sea. The group has also taken up the challenge of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Recently, PGE signed an agreement with Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów Adamów Konin to establish a company to build a nuclear power plant. A Korean inves-tor is behind the investment and will supply reactors for the power units. The first electricity from the investment is expected to flow in 2035.
