Przemysław Czarnek, the minister of education and science, received the Award of Stefan Wyszyński, the Primate of the Millennium, granted by the board of the Association of Alumni and Friends of the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL).
“Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has made us witnesses to the discredit of international public law. The slogan “No more war” turned out to be empty if the lives of entire nations are not based on truth. That is why it is necessary to base social life on the foundation of natural law”, said the head of the Ministry of Education, accepting the award.
The importance of axiology was also referred to by Fr. Prof. Józef Krukowski, a chairman of the Legal Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences Branch in Lublin and a long-term lecturer at the Catholic University of Lublin.
“The special value of the scientific work of Prof. Czarnek is paying special attention to the axiological layer of legal regulations”, said Krukowski. He also emphasized that as a minister, Prof. Czarnek drew attention to the crisis of the Polish education system, both in teaching and upbringing. “The Polish school ceased to play an educational role, and Minister Czarnek took bold steps to change it”, noted the chairman.
Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin, Fr. Prof. Mirosław Kalinowski emphasized that the laureate in his activities remains faithful to the scientific and moral formation he had received within the Catholic University of Lublin. He also pointed out the courage of presenting Christian values by the minister Czarnek.
The Prize of Stefan Cardinal Wyszyński is awarded for outstanding scientific, didactic, professional or organizational achievements aimed at spreading Catholic faith, in accordance with the principle of Deo et Patriae (for God and Fatherland). The laureate of this year’s award, Dr Przemysław Czarnek is a lawyer, constitutionalist, graduate, and since 2003, a lecturer at the Catholic University of Lublin employed at the Department of Constitutional Law.
