Prime Minister Morawiecki: Poland to receive funds from the European Union for refugees

European Union leaders agreed on the text of the declaration on Ukraine at the informal summit in Versailles. The document states that Ukraine belongs to the European family. It was also recalled that Kyiv has applied for membership of the European Union, and the initiative will now be dealt with by the European Commission.

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized “It is clear from the adopted provisions of the declaration that we all agree that Ukraine should join the European Union. The sentence in the declaration is also important, indicating that we want to support Ukraine in its efforts to join our Europe”.

The entire discussion focused on the aspects of the war conflict in Ukraine, including war refugees. Every day 100-200 thousand people leave Ukraine for Poland, Slovakia and Hungary.

Prime Minister stated “We want to give hope for Ukraine, therefore, one of the points of the discussion at Versailles was the third package of sanctions against Russia concerning the freezing of assets, confiscation of the oligarchs’ assets and freezing access to technology.

During the summit, Prime Minister Morawiecki called for a discussion on funds that should flow to Poland, as it is the main country that accepts refugees. The head of government revealed that Poland will receive funds from the European Union to help refugees.

Initially, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that EUR 500 million will be allocated to help Ukrainians. However, as a result of the discussions at the summit, this amount will be significantly increased. Polish Prime Minister added that according to the head of the Commission that the amount will be increased and will exceed EUR 1 billion”.
