On the anniversary of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki met with President Volodymyr Zelenski and Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal in Kyiv. “The head of the Polish government presented Ukraine with its first Leopard tanks and met with soldiers who received the new armament”, reports the Prime Minister’s Office (KPRM).

“Kyiv is today the capital of freedom. It is the easternmost fortress of all Europe, of all free Europe. No nation must demonstrate its belonging to European civilisation, but today, after 365 days, everyone can see that Ukraine and Kyiv are the heart of European civilisation and European values”, says Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

The heads of the Polish and Ukrainian governments laid flowers at the Memorial Wall of the Fallen for Ukraine. Prime Minister Morawiecki and President Zelenski visited soldiers in the hospital who were at the front and fought for the freedom not only of Ukraine but also of all Europe. The head of the Polish government also met with the staff of the Polish Embassy in Kyiv and thanked them for their work over the past year.

“I am here to pay tribute to all the fighting heroes of Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, who are defending their homeland, but in this way they are also defending Europe and defending Poland”, stressed Prime Minister Morawiecki.

Polish support for Ukraine also has a diplomatic and humanitarian aspect. The head of the Polish government is actively working internationally to secure further arms supplies to Ukraine. A joint coalition for the supply of modern military equipment, including tanks, is a topic that the head of the Polish government has raised during recent meetings with, among others, the prime ministers of Denmark and Finland or the German chancellor.

“The military support of our neighbour is possible thanks to the regular equipping of the Polish army with modern equipment. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s visit to Kyiv is a clear signal of further action in defence of Ukraine”, informs the Chancellery.
