The President of the PKN ORLEN Management Board, Daniel Obajtek, met on February 16 in Budapest with Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orbán. The talks focused on strategic issues of ensuring energy security in Central and Eastern Europe.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, President of the Management Board of PKN ORLEN Daniel Obajtek and president of the Management Board and CEO of the MOL Group Zsolt Hernádi discussed energy sovereignty in Central and Eastern Europe and the strengthening of the North-South energy corridor. The meeting also concerned the agreement between the MOL Group and the Concern announced a few weeks ago. Thanks to the exchange of assets between the companies, MOL will enter the Polish retail fuel market, where it may become the third-largest player, while PKN ORLEN will be the fourth concern in Hungary in terms of the number of stations. “This cooperation perfectly demonstrates the economic dynamics of both countries”, informed the Hungarian prime minister.

Daniel Obajtek emphasized, that Hungary, where PKN ORLEN is already present on the wholesale market, is a natural direction of development in the retail segment. ORLEN effectively implements the designated strategy which assumes entering new foreign markets and it is happening currently. “I am convinced that the partnership relations between our countries, resulting from the shared history and experience, will allow us to take full advantage of the Company’s opportunities and the market opportunities”- said Obajtek.

Pursuant to the agreement signed with the MOL Group, PKN ORLEN will gain 144 fuel stations in Hungary. As part of one asset exchange transaction, PKN ORLEN will gain over 7% share in the Hungarian retail market and will be the fourth concern in that country in terms of the number of gas stations. In the Hungarian wholesale market, PKN ORLEN has already a 5% share in gasoline and 4% in diesel oil.
