The results of the first edition of the QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024 have been published, which includes 688 European universities from 42 countries, including 33 universities from Poland.
For the first time in the 20-year history of the QS ranking, compiled by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a summary focusing on leading European universities was presented.
The University of Warsaw was ranked 92nd in Europe and 2nd among universities from Eastern Europe. The next Polish university in the list is Jagiellonian University in Krakow, which was ranked 122nd in the ranking and 3rd in Eastern Europe.
Warsaw University of Technology was listed in the ranking at 211th position. Other Polish universities in the ranking include Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (251), the University of Wrocław (302) and the Gdańsk University of Technology (319).
The top of the ranking was dominated by British universities; they took as many as 7 places in the top ten, including 1st place – University of Oxford and 3rd place – University of Cambridge.
The QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024 takes into account 12 criteria (listed in order from highest weighting to lowest): academic reputation, reputation among employers, number of citations per publication, level of internationalisation of the university’s research network, number of publications per faculty, staffing, ratio of academics to students, diversity of international students, ratio of foreign academics to total academics, sustainability, as well as the ratio of exchange students to all students and an analogous criterion for incoming students.
