Polish scientists awarded Starting Grants of the European Research Council

Eight Polish researchers have been awarded the prestigious Starting Grants of the European Research Council (ERC) which granted in total 397 scientists.   

Eight grants were received by Polish researchers in 5 research centers including three grants at the University of Warsaw, two at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and three at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań, the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Foundation of Adepts and Enthusiasts of Economics.

Starting Grant is part of the new EU research and innovation program “Horizon Europe”.  The European Research Council emphasized that EUR 619 million will be invested in promising projects designed by scientists and scholars. Grants with an average value of 1.5 million euro will help ambitious young scientists start their own projects, form teams and implement the best ideas.

The list of winners of this year’s Starting Grant, published on January 10, 2022, includes 397 scientists from 22 European countries. Over 4,000 representatives of science applied for grants and the success rate was 9.8 percent. Researchers from Germany (72), France (53), Great Britain (46) and the Netherlands (44) received the most grants.
