Polish presidential couple are patrons of tree-planting campaign for the fourth time

by Dignity News
For the fourth time, the Polish presidential couple are patrons of the #sadziMY campaign. The fourth great national tree planting will take place on 29 and 30 September. One million trees have been prepared for planting.

“Every tree is a sanctuary of life providing a nesting place for birds, a habitat for insects and micro-organisms. For humans – shade in the summer heat, cleaner air, shelter from the wind and nerve-soothing greenery”, according to the website of the Ministry for Climate and Environment.

The climax of the #sadziMY campaign is Friday 30 September near Nowy Sącz. There, trees will be planted by the presidential couple. President Andrzej Duda and his wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda have not only been patrons of the project since its first edition, but they themselves, by their own example, encourage people to take action.

“The #sadziMY campaign is being launched for the fourth time. As every year, we take part in it and warmly encourage you to do so”, says President Duda.

There are 429 forest districts in Poland that have prepared one million seedlings of various tree and shrub species. Anyone wishing to participate can visit the nearest forest district to collect a seedling and plant it on their own land. Foresters will be handing them out on Thursday and Friday 29 and 30 September between 9am and 3pm.

“We plant 500 million trees in forests every year. Our work increases the area of forests and their abundance. All Poles can help us to grow as many trees as possible. I encourage you to take a tree from the foresters and plant it on your own plot, by your house or where you work”, says Jozef Kubica, acting Director General of the State Forests.

On the Forest Data Bank website, bdl.lasy.gov.pl, you can check where the forest districts’ offices are located. It is advisable to come to collect the trees with your own packaging to protect the tree roots from drying out. You can store the trees for a few days before planting by laying them flat on the ground and sprinkling the roots with damp sand.
