Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) has applied for a new location permit for an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. Currently, PGE has submitted six applications.

PGE has submitted another application to the Ministry of Infrastructure for a new location permit for the construction of an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The area is located on Ławica Słupska, in close proximity to the Baltica 2 + 3 projects implemented by PGE in cooperation with Ørsted, the largest Danish energy company.

There are currently 11 locations available in the Baltic Sea, where PGE and other entities will be able to apply for permits to build and use artificial islands. PGE is currently developing projects with a total capacity of approx. 3.5 GW.

Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE emphasized “As an offshore leader in Poland, we are not slowing down a pace and consistently implementing the strategy of investing in offshore energy. Since November last year, the PGE Group has submitted a total of six new applications to the Ministry of Infrastructure for the location permits for the construction of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea, including two projects realized jointly with Enea and one jointly with Tauron”.

The strategic goal of the PGE Group in the offshore energy area is to build at least 6.5 GW of capacity by 2040. According to government assumptions, in 2040, offshore wind farms in the Polish zone of the Baltic Sea will have a capacity of approximately 8-11 GW.

The PGE Group produces 41% net electricity in Poland, and its share in the heat market is assessed at 18%. The group estimates its share in the renewable energy market at 10%. PGE serves 5.5 million customers in the distribution area of approximately 123 thousand km2. Its market share in terms of the volume of distributed electricity is 25% and sales to end-users – 33%. The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2009.

Ørsted A / S is a Danish multinational energy company headquartered in Fredericia, Denmark. It is the largest energy company in Denmark.
