According to the latest survey by the Polish Bicycle Association, four out of 10 surveyed Poles are considering purchasing an electric bicycle in the near future. Over 60% of respondents admitted that an electric bicycle would facilitate their daily commuting to work or shopping.
In the study “Electric bike use and shopping preferences”, it was reported that 38 % of surveyed Poles are considering buying an electric bike for themselves or a family member in the next 6-12 months. For every second respondent (50% of the total) the willingness to use an electric bike is caused by an increase in fuel prices.
60% of respondents agreed with the statement that having an electric bike would also reduce household expenses on transportation and mobility. Taking into account the cost of purchase and operation, for the majority of respondents (70%), the purchase of an electric bike is more economical than using a car.
“The role of the electric bike in everyday communication is systematically growing. This is shown by both the latest research, observations of our experts and trends on Polish streets and bicycle paths”, said Mateusz Pytko, a director of the Polish Bicycle Association Office. In his opinion, Poles follow the trends in Western Europe, and the increase in the popularity of e-bikes will bring only benefits for cities and the society, as well as a chance for the dynamic development of Polish electromobility.
The rise in the popularity of electric bikes is not new. For at least two years, bicycle sales have witnessed strong growth. In April last year, the media reported that the YouGov survey shows that every fourth Pole would like to own an electric bicycle.
The study commissioned by the Polish Bicycle Association was carried out by the SW Research studio. Online interviews were carried out in May, on a representative group of people aged 25–55, from cities of various sizes.
