According to the last census, Poland’s population is 38 179.800 estimated at March 31, 2021 -the census reference date. At the conference inaugurating the 3rd Demographic Congress in Warsaw Dr Dominik Rozkrut, the president of the Central Statistical Office (GUS) emphasized a decrease of less than 1% (about 330 thousand people), compared to the results from the census conducted in 2011,
As 10 years ago, the share of men is 48.5% and 51.5% of women in Poland’s population. The president of the Central Statistical Office explained that the minimal majority of women over men is due to the longer life of women.
The preliminary data of the 2021 National Census of Population and Housing show that the share of people in pre-working and working age decreased, and in post-working age increased, compared to 2011. In pre-working age (age group 0-17) this is a decrease from 18.7% to 18.2 percent. In post-productive age, a significant increase from 16.9% up to 21.8% is observed.
Dominik Rozkrut also informed that the number of apartments in Poland on March 31, 2021 is 15.2 million. This is an increase of 12.6%, or 1.7 million apartments. There are 6.8 million buildings in Poland, which is 800,000 or 13.3% more than in 2011.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, commenting on the latest census data, said that politics that do not learn from science, do not learn from knowledge is like reading tea leaves or using a magic ball. Therefore, he knows perfectly well that such detailed studies based on the data of the demographic distribution within Polish society are a very important basis for introducing specific measures.
The 3rd Demographic Congress is organized on the initiative of the Government Population Council and takes place under the Honorary Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland.
