The Polish government, in consultation with Ukrainian authorities, will build centers for people forced to leave their own homes due to the armed conflict in Ukraine. Ultimately, the Polish government is involved in the construction of housing for 20,000. people. The first of the premises was opened in Lviv. The construction site of temporary houses for refugees, who came to Lviv from the eastern part of Ukraine was visited by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
“Already 10 million people had to leave their homes. 2.5 million are in Poland, but let us not forget that 6 million people are deployed in Ukraine itself”, said Prime Minister and announced that Poland will participate in subsequent initiatives of that type.
“We are doing everything to protect Ukrainian children, women. There will be more such towns. Our workers go to towns around Kyiv and they will build similar centres,” added Morawiecki.
So far, nearly 2.9 million refugees entered Poland. The Act on the help of Ukrainian citizens allows for their legal stay in Poland. Ukrainians can take a job, take advantage of free healthcare or continue science and education. Financial support can be also received by people who have hosted Ukrainian citizens.
Prime Minister Morawiecki appealed to the European Commission to allocate money as part of the Solidarity Fund with Ukraine, which will be intended directly to help the people fleeing the war.
He also reminded that in his conversations with the leaders of Western countries, he constantly indicates the need to introduce the strongest sanctions against Russia.
“This is the smallest possible price that we can pay in Europe, for what is happening in Ukraine, for those terrible crimes, the smallest price for regaining freedom and everybody must understand it:, said Mateusz Morawiecki.
