Last day, Poland reported 53,420 coronavirus infections and 276 deaths due to COVID-19. Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska admitted that the fifth wave is accelerating and that this is a new record result.
The deputy head of the health ministry did not conceal that there are expected further increases in the coming days. He explained, that it can be seen in the number of orders for PCR tests and also in the number of performed tests.
According to Kraska, a record 170,000 tests were made last day. The share of the Omicron variant in new infections is now 40%. Deputy Minister Kraska emphasized that this percentage is changing very dynamically and this number of Omicron cases is growing very quickly.
The previous record of the number of infections was reported on Saturday, January 22, when there were 40,876 new cases.
On Tuesday, January 25, there were 36,995 cases of SARS-CoV-2 and 252 deaths of COVID-19 patients.
On Wednesday, January 19, the health ministry reported 30,586 new infections and 375 deaths. Today, Poland recorded 65% more cases than a week ago.
Due to the development of the pandemic, the Minister of Education and Science, Przemysław Czarnek, decided that from Thursday, January 27 until the end of the winter break, that is until February 27, pupils of grades 5-8 of primary schools and pupils of all grades of secondary schools will switch to distance learning. Full-time education will be conducted only in grades 1-4 of primary schools.
