“87 Polish universities will receive a total of PLN 150 million for the development and renovation of student residences. This money has been granted in the form of an increase in subsidies for 2023. The maximum amount of support for one university is PLN 4 million”, said the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
“In agreement with the ministry’s leadership, but also using my authority, I have decided to provide the amount of PLN 150 million to universities for the renovation of dormitories and the improvement of students’ social and living situation. These subsidies will benefit 87 universities in Poland which have dormitories and accommodation for students”, said Minister of Science and Higher Education Dariusz Wieczorek.
“We have divided this up fairly, according to the number of places in the dormitories. This is a kind of symbol showing how the ministry will operate at the moment. The division is clear, transparent”, added the minister.
The head of the science ministry also announced comprehensive solutions aimed at developing and supporting student residences. “We will be preparing a whole programme concerning the renovation of student halls of residence and we will also want to persuade university rectors to use the funds which will be allocated for this purpose in the future”, announced Minister Wieczorek.
150 million PLN will go to higher education institutions in the form of increases in subsidies from funds for the maintenance and development of teaching and research potential. Support will be given to higher education institutions running student dormitories.
Subsidy increases were granted to 85 public higher education institutions supervised by the minister responsible for higher education and science,1 non-public academic institution run by a church, financed from the state budget according to the rules of public higher education institutions under a separate act,1 non-public vocational institution run by a church, financed from the state budget according to the rules of public higher education institutions under a separate act.
