PKN Orlen receives the 200th delivery of LNG to the Świnoujście gas port

by Dignity News
State-owned energy company PKN Orlen has received the 200th shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the terminal in Świnoujście. The most recent delivery of 75,000 tonnes of LNG arrived at the gas port from the USA. So far, a total of approximately 21 bcm of natural gas has been delivered to Poland using the Świnoujście infrastructure.

“Poland’s fuel and energy security is a priority for us, and uninterrupted natural gas supplies are an important element in its realisation. Therefore, in response to the challenging energy situation in Europe, we have intensified our imports of liquefied natural gas. Thanks to the planned extension of the terminal in Świnoujście, from 2024 we will be able to import as much as 8.3 bcm of this raw material to Poland by sea annually”, says the president of PKN Orlen, Daniel Obajtek.

The share of supplies by sea in the total supply of this raw material is steadily increasing. In 2016, LNG accounted for about 8 % of gas supplies from abroad to PGNiG, and in 2021, supplies of this product increased to over 24 %.

The total volume of gas imported since the start of the terminal’s operation has amounted to about 21 bcm in the volatile state. Qatar remains the main supplier of LNG to Swinoujscie, with 110 cargoes arriving so far.

There have been 72 deliveries from the United States, followed by Norway with 13 cargoes, Nigeria with 3 deliveries and Trinidad and Tobago with 2 deliveries. In the years to come, as a result of long-term agreements between Orlen Group PGNiG and US LNG producers, deliveries from the United States will be dominant.

PKN Orlen Group manages six refineries in Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, and carries out upstream operations in Poland and Canada. Its consolidated sales revenues reached PLN 131.5 billion in 2021. The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1999.
