Piotr Naimski, the government’s plenipotentiary for strategic energy structure said that increases in gas prices in Poland are independent of the situation in the country.

The prices of energy carriers have risen sharply and dramatically in an unprecedented manner. This is mainly due to the manipulation of the Russian government and Gazprom, which is after all a tool for practicing Russian foreign policy. Gazprom had limited gas supplies to Europe in December 2021.

The government’s plenipotentiary for the strategic energy structure recalled that the long-term gas contract with Russia was still in force.

Naimski promised that Poland will free itself from that dependency at the end of this year. However, part of the gas for Poles is purchased by Polish Oil and Gas Mining on the European exchange market, due to their security policy. If Gazprom does not supply gas to the exchange markets, the supply of gas decreases and prices go up. The price can vary from day to day. The government’s plenipotentiary hopes the price peak is behind as prices have fallen in recent days. He emphasizes that weather also contributes to lower gas consumption. Reacting to those factors is quite complicated, however the Polish government is dealing with that problem in the long term, hence it started the compensatory actions.

Piotr Naimski assured that Poland is not in danger of an energy blackout. He added that such fakes are shared through bad journalism and disinformation on this matter.
