Parliamentary elections and referendum to be held on Sunday

by Dignity News
Poland will hold parliamentary elections and a referendum on Sunday 15 October. On the day of the elections to the Sejm and Senate, the State Election Commission will hold four press conferences. It will inform them, among other things, about the voter participation rate and possible incidents. After the end of voting at 9 pm, TVP, TVN and Polsat will announce estimated election results based on an exit poll.

In a televised address on Thursday evening, President Andrzej Duda appealed for participation in the elections. He highlighted the need to make a “wise as well as responsible choice”.

“It is important that the cooperation between the President and the future government is efficient and effective. Today we cannot afford quarrels, brawls and chaos,” said Andrzej Duda.

The President recalled that “generations of Poles fought to be able to decide for themselves about the most important matters for our homeland.

“Today it is our right and privilege, which is why participation in elections to the Sejm and Senate, the election of our representatives, is so extremely important. It is we, the citizens of the Republic, who have the power in our hands to shape the politics of our homeland together”, he stated.

The electoral and referendum silence in Poland will begin at midnight on Friday and end at 9 pm on Sunday.

Estimated election results based on an exit poll, i.e. the answers given by voters after leaving the polling station, will be compiled by the Ipsos studio.

The survey will be conducted in front of 900 randomly selected polling stations. Ipsos pollsters will ask people to complete a short questionnaire asking about the votes cast on the day. The exit poll will be conducted by around 1,850 interviewers.

So far, polls conducted by various opinion polling centres do not give a definitive and unequivocal answer as to the outcome of Sunday’s election in Poland.
