Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travelling to Ukraine, voivodes ask local governments about the possibility of accepting refugees

by DignityNews.eu

Due to the changing security situation caused by the military and political escalation on the part of the Russian Federation, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ) advises against unnecessary trips to Ukraine. Polish voivodes are preparing to accept refugees from Ukraine.

In the update of the warning for travellers, the resort informs Poles who are in Ukraine that they should register in the Odyseusz system, follow the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on an ongoing basis on the profiles of Polish missions in social media and on websites, be prepared in case of a need to quickly leave the place of stay, and prepare the most important own and family members’ documents (passport, ID card, vehicle registration certificate, as well as covid passport and a test result in Polish or English). It also advises to stock up on cash necessary to cover basic needs in the event of a need to leave.

The Ministry advises against any travel to parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts beyond the control of the Ukrainian authorities, as well as to areas adjacent to the military demarcation line and to the Crimean Peninsula.

The ministry adds that due to Russia’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula (Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol) and the resulting inability to provide Polish citizens staying in Crimea with consular assistance, the recommendations to leave it and refrain from travelling to these areas remain in force.

Following the warnings of the US government about a possible attack from Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Germany called on their citizens to leave Ukraine.

Minister of the Interior and Administration Mariusz Kamiński informed on Twitter that voivodes are preparing the possibility to accept refugees from Ukraine. The government representatives asked local governments to prepare reports indicating accommodation facilities for refugees, the number of people acceptable, the related costs and the time of adaptation of buildings, with a recommendation of up to 48 hours.
