Włodzimierz Bernacki, deputy Minister of Education and Science informed on Twitter that the Ministry of Education and Science is breaking off cooperation with scientific institutions in Russia, universities and research centers.

Bernacki emphasized “We are sending the Russian side a clear message. First, we are ending cooperation within the United Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubno near Moscow and the International Center for Scientific and Technical Information. Secondly, the Ministry of Education and Science ceases cooperation with Russia under the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in science and technology, concluded on August 25, 1993. This means that all contacts with Russian scientists, universities and research centers are suspended.

Deputy Minister Bernacki informs the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation that work on the mutual recognition of diplomas will also be discontinued.

Bernacki added “We do not see the possibility of continuing work on the draft agreement between the Government of the Republic of Poland and the Government of the Russian Federation on mutual recognition of certificates, diplomas, periods of study, education, qualifications and academic degrees”.

The Ministry of Education announced on Tuesday that pupils and students from Ukraine will be able to continue their education in Poland. The spokesman of the Ministry of Education, Anna Ostrowska, also commented that classes in schools for students from Ukraine will not have to be typical lessons.

Ukrainian children may participate in additional Polish language classes and may be admitted to a Polish school. And here, depending on the needs, the local government, the leading body should check whether there is a place in a given school to admit this child, or whether a preparatory department should be created. “There, we will usually encourage local government officials to create such preparatory departments due to the fact that we do not fully know the situation of these students, these children”, emphasized Ostrowska.
