Minister for Climate and Environment: Poland ready to function without Russian gas today

by DignityNews.eu
Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa said that Poland is ready to function without Russian gas today. She emphasized that Europe still has a chance of being independent in terms of energy from Russia.

The Minister of Climate and the Environment was asked whether European countries have a chance to become independent from Russia in terms of energy.

She emphasized that LNG is major neglect of European countries. “Today gas has been included back in taxonomy. It is a pity that it is so late, but Europe still has a chance for energy independence from Russia”, said the minister. She also noted that Poland would postulate that the package of sanctions against Russia should include oil, gas and coal.

The head of the ministry said that Poland was ready to completely give up Russian gas without risking energy security. She added that from January 1, Poland will have the new infrastructure fully ready, and today it can operate using the existing system.

“Baltic Pipe will allow Poles to have an alternative and full independence, it means that the end of the Yamal contract is a very close perspective, but regardless of this perspective, Poland is ready to function without Russian gas today”, assessed Moskwa.

The minister also referred to the seizure by the Russians of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, shut down after the accident in 1986. Poland and Canada have asked for an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“It is unacceptable to provide any military operations on the premises of either a functioning or a decommissioned nuclear power plant”, underlined Moskwa.

Referring to the application for the IAEA summit, the minister pointed out that the problem was Russia’s presence in international organizations. “Unfortunately, Russians participate in international bodies. I am convinced that the delays and difficulties in proceeding with the strong positions are caused by the influence of Russian representatives. We have postulated exclusion Russia of those structures”, announced Moskwa.
