On the initiative of the Central Mining Institute (GIG) in Katowice, a declaration on the launch of the Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC-GIG) was signed at the Ministry of State Assets. It is one of the first projects of this type in Poland, which will bring together companies that play a key role in energy security.
The aim of establishing the Center is the exchange and transfer of knowledge, experience and good practices in the security of ICT systems. The center will also increase the level of cybersecurity.
So far, only two such centers have been launched in Poland, ie ISAC-Kolej in the railway sector and the Reputational Center of Electronic Communications (ISAC-UKE) in the telecommunications sector.
The ISAC-GIG Information Exchange and Analysis Center includes State Treasury companies within the raw materials sector: Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa SA, KGHM Polska Miedź SA, Tauron Polska Energia SA, Polska Grupa Górnicza SA, Lubelski Węgiel “Bogdanka” SA and Węglokoks Kraj SA.
The center will develop and promote standards and recommendations for the mining and energy sector, as well as cooperate in handling security incidents and cyber-attacks affecting organizations in this sector. Being an area of extreme importance for the functioning of the state, the mining and energy industry pays special attention to the protection of automation systems and devices used in production.
“Developed as a partnership of operators of key services, cybersecurity center will constitute the foundation of state security, with the aim to minimize the risks of cyber-attacks which number is constantly growing”, said Piotr Pyzik, a government plenipotentiary for the transformation of energy companies and coal mining.
