LOT Polish Airlines cancelling flights to Ukraine, Polish airspace is safe

by DignityNews.eu
After the Russian attack on Ukraine, LOT Polish Airlines decided to cancel flights to Ukraine. The carrier said that due to Russian aggression, it suspended connections to Kyiv, Odessa and Lviv. Earlier, even before the start of the military action, a similar decision was made by German Lufthansa and Dutch KLM.

In the morning, Ukraine closed its airspace. At the same time, the European Aviation Safety Agency issued a warning to carriers to avoid flights over Ukraine and to exercise extreme caution in the vicinity of the Ukrainian zone.

The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency informed that due to the closure of the airspace over Ukraine for civil flights, planes flying in this direction were safely diverted. Safety in Polish airspace is ensured.

The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) warned airlines on Thursday to avoid flying over Ukraine and to exercise “extreme caution” in the airspace within 100 nautical miles (185 km) of the Belarusian-Ukrainian and Russian-Ukrainian borders.

After the Russian invasion began on Thursday night, Ukraine closed its airspace to civilian flights due to “high-security risks”.

Earlier, the Ukrainian state-owned company responsible for air traffic control (Ukraeroruch) announced on its website that it suspended the air traffic services to civil users of Ukrainian airspace.
