KGHM Polska Miedź has signed a letter of intent to cooperate with the Ministry of National Defence (MON), represented by the Cyber Defence Forces Component Command assuming training, practical exercises in the areas of cyber-security and IT, as well as exchange of experience and expertise. The activities will be coordinated by a specialised division of KGHM, the Central Information Processing Centre.

According to Poland’s largest copper company, the purpose of the letter of intent is primarily cooperation between MON and KGHM to increase the level of security of the cyberspace of the Republic of Poland. The parties will exchange experience and knowledge in cyber security. Promotional activities on the subject and joint security-related projects are also planned.

In the national cyber security system, the Polish Army is a key element in the context of activities and projects responsible for cyber defence. Cooperation in this field is an opportunity for KGHM to strengthen the system capable of countering contemporary cyber threats and more. “We look forward to close cooperation between our specialists and military experts”, said Tomasz Zdzikot, President of the Management Board of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

Major General Karol Molenda, commander of the Cyber Defence Forces Component stressed that “cooperation in cyber security is crucial in combating increasingly advanced cyber attacks”.

“Organisations, government institutions, corporations and services need to share information about threats and best practices to effectively defend against cyber attacks”, added Gen Molenda.

KGHM has been hosting a cyberwarfare workshop for companies in the energy and mining sectors since 2022. The workshops are designed to prepare teams from individual companies and companies for cyber threats. Attack scenarios are prepared for participants, which require quick action and decision-making that is crucial for the organisations concerned. The training provides an opportunity to apply their experiences and learn new solutions.
