Government planning no new restrictions for the fifth wave of coronavirus

Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska said that the fifth wave of coronavirus is already accelerating in Poland. “Comparing today’s 10,445 cases to the same day a week ago, the growth is 34%”. Nevertheless, the minister added that at the moment the government is not planning to introduce any new restrictions.

Deputy Minister Kraska informed, that according to current data, more and more confirmed cases are Omicron- the new variant of the coronavirus. “Today’s 611 cases make up for 16.5% and belong to this new variant. Unfortunately, it is already a serious amount at the moment and I think it will increase in the coming days”.

According to the deputy health minister, in about 2-3 weeks the peak of the wave will come and the Omicron variant will dominate in Poland. He announced that the health ministry wants to stop the fifth wave.

Deputy Minister Kraska emphasized: “Today, 200 million surgical masks plus 10 million FFP2 masks will reach the Polish citizens from the Material Reserves Agency. The masks will be sent to those provinces with a large increase in infections, i.e. to Małopolska, Mazovia, as well as the other provinces in the Eastern part of Poland.
