Gdynia launched the 14th Film Festival “Unruly, Unbreakable, Cursed”

by Dignity News
On 28 September, the 14th Film Festival “Unruly, Unbreakable, Cursed” (NNW) started in Gdynia. The event will include over 100 films, whose common denominator is the search for universal paths to freedom.

“I am pleased that the NNW Festival gathers people who are passionate about using the language of film to describe and analyse the world. They build the foundation on which we try to complete the elements of a fractured, divided world”, said the director and originator of the festival, Arkadiusz Gołębiewski.

The festival will last until 1 October and, in addition to film screenings, it will include discussions, exhibitions, concerts, performances, meetings with artists and witnesses to history. Events will take place at the Gdynia Film Centre, Grunwaldzki Square, the Naval Museum and the Riviera Club.

The International Feature Film Competition will host 15 productions, the International Documentary Competition will feature 26 films and the Polish Film Competition will screen 36 films. Radio documentaries will also be awarded. Seventeen works have been selected for competition in this category.

The documentary film competitions and special screenings will feature films from the USA, Georgia, Norway, Japan, Venezuela, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Italy, Iran and Estonia.

The festival also includes industry meetings and continuous work on raising the level of Polish cinema, and on helping filmmakers and producers. Therefore, meetings and masterclasses will be held during the festival as part of the NNW Film Academy.

The four festival days are filled to the brim, and all activities are open to everyone and free of charge, assure the organisers from the Cultural Stage Association and the City of Gdynia, who particularly recommend the pre-premiere screening of the Ukrainian film “Sniper. The White Raven’, the Georgian Oscar candidate ‘Brighton 4th’, or the American ‘Invincible’, directed by Barry Levinson, as well as Polish productions such as ‘Eagle. The Last Patrol’ or ‘Tenant’.
