Deputy Minister of Defense confirms delivery of Patriot missile batteries to Poland

Deputy Minister of National Defense Wojciech Skurkiewicz said that Polish-American relations in the military area are at their very high level. He announced that soon Patriot missile batteries, and in 2024 the first F-35 planes will be delivered to Poland. The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense also stated that the presence of the army on the border with Belarus should be estimated for more six months.

The deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense and the Senator of Law and Justice was asked whether Polish military cooperation with the US looks the same today as during the presidency of Donald Trump.

– We do not see any changes, American soldiers are on the territory of the Republic of Poland, they train and increase their involvement and presence. As for Polish-American relations in the military area, they are absolutely at a very high level, said the deputy minister.

Skurkiewicz added that Poland is waiting for the decision of the US Congress to purchase 250 Abrams cut- edging tanks to be delivered to the eastern flank of the Republic of Poland, to 18 divisions.  According to the preliminary agreement, the first Abrams tanks will be delivered to Poland in 2022.

When asked about the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border, the deputy minister announced that the army would remain there for at least six months and recalled that a permanent border fence was being built.

Deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense said “We expect that there will be attempts to continue crossing the border until the permanent border installation is built, and for this we need another half a year, basing on the announcements by the minister of the interior and administration that the construction of a permanent fence will take six months”.
