Orlen Group acquires wind farm project in Opole region

by Dignity News

Energa Green Development, owned by Energa S.A. of the Orlen Group, has bought 100 % of the shares from the listed ONDE S.A. and Goalscreen Holdings Ltd companies with a project for the Szybowice onshore wind farm with 37.4 MW of installed capacity. Located in the Opole Voivodeship, the farm is expected to be built by the end of 2025.

The sale price of the Wind Farm Szybowice Sp. z o.o. was set at PLN 60 million, which will be adjusted by the value of the net working capital and the value of the net debt of the special purpose vehicle owning the farm project. The sellers can expect an additional PLN 22 million if the Szybowice wind farm achieves COD (Commercial Operation Date) status by the end of 2025, i.e., among other things, a final occupancy permit.

The Szybowice wind farm will be constructed in the municipality of Prudnik, located near the border with the Czech Republic, in the Prudnik District of the Opolskie Voivodeship. It will consist of 17 Vestas turbines, each with a capacity of 2.2 MW, making a total of 37.4 MW. The farm’s estimated energy production is expected to allow it to cover the needs of approximately 60,000 households (there are approximately 30,000 people living in the Prudnik municipality).

With nearly 1 GW of renewable energy capacity, Orlen, a multi-utility company, is the vice-leader of the Polish RES market, in terms of installed capacity, after PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna. Zero-carbon generation assets are concentrated in GK Energa, which Orlen acquired in 2020, and in GK Orlen Wind 3, responsible for the acquisition of wind assets.

Orlen Group’s portfolio includes flow-through hydropower plants, photovoltaic and wind farms owned by Energa Wytwarzanie S.A. (a subsidiary of Energa S.A.) and onshore farms belonging to Orlen Wind 3 Sp. z o.o. Onshore wind farms account for the largest share of Orlen Group’s portfolio, mainly due to acquisitions made in recent years.

Orlen Group’s wind portfolio has so far included 13 operational installations with a total installed capacity of approximately 500 MW. It will now expand with a further 14 onshore farms, currently under construction.
