The world’s largest ecosystem in Quantum Cybersecurity will be launched in Gdańsk as the result of cooperation between the University of Gdańsk and the Quantum Cybersecurity Hub Europe foundation. Its task will be to combine business with new quantum technologies in cybersecurity.
Dr Marcin Pawłowski from the Center for Theory of Quantum Technologies (ICTQT) at the University of Gdańsk emphasizes that digital security is becoming an increasingly important issue. Communicating with the bank or protecting bank accounts with a password need encrypting data. Pawłowski believes Quantum cybersecurity is a new reality.
The cooperation assumes raising funds as well as conducting projects, research, scientific and development works in the area of quantum technology development, in standard and quantum cybersecurity.
Another issue is intellectual property protection, which increases the chance to effectively search for business partners interested in the commercialization and implementation of research results related to quantum technology. The cooperation includes holding conferences, seminars, training and other events related to the promotion of cybersecurity research, as well as activities to raise the awareness of the industry in this regard.
The partners will create an educational platform, which will be available to businesses, organizations, universities, schools and private persons. Thus, the world’s largest ecosystem in Quantum Cybersecurity will be created in Gdańsk.
Research work on the development of quantum technologies, with particular emphasis on the foundations of quantum physics, quantum communication, new computing techniques and quantum cybersecurity, is pursued on the basis of financing from the Foundation for Polish Science as part of the project “International Center for Theory of Quantum Technologies”, carried out as part of International Research Agendas program. The university received PLN 35 million to create ICTQT.
Six research groups were established in 2018. The foreign strategic partner is the Institute of Quantum Optics and Quantum Information of the Austrian Academy of Sciences – one of the best centers in the world. It is worth recalling that it was the University of Gdańsk where the world-famous Gdańsk school of quantum computer science was born.
