E.ON Polska has started work on the construction of a 1 MWe biogas plant. Completion of the investment and start-up of energy production from the plant near Pułtusk is planned for the end of 2024.
The plant will operate for about 8,000 hours per year and produce about 8 GWh of green energy per year. A capacity at this level will allow it to cover the energy needs of, for example, a small industrial plant. Unlike photovoltaic installations and wind farms, biogas plants are independent of weather conditions and can generate electricity continuously.
“As a modern energy group, we strive to keep the greening of our portfolio in mind in every area of our business. We see great potential in the development of biogas sources in Poland and want to invest further in this area. The biogas plant near Pułtusk is our first and certainly not our last project in this segment. We believe in diversifying RES sources, which also means investing in ones that can operate at their full potential regardless of the weather”, said Artur Stawiarski, director for strategy and business development at E.ON Polska.
E.ON Polska has partnered with Biowatt, which has developed the design for the agricultural biogas plant and will be responsible for running it for the first two years of operation.
The biogas plant is to operate in line with the principles of a closed loop economy. The plant will use agricultural biomass substrates and waste. The digestate will be distributed as a micronutrient-rich fertiliser to local farmers. This will both support the surrounding community and reduce the carbon footprint associated with its transport, as it will be used locally.
The E.ON Group is one of Europe’s leading energy companies, serving around 53 million customers in 15 markets in Europe. It employs a total of more than 78,000 people, including 3,500 in group companies in Poland.
