Defence training and promotion of military service is assumed in a letter of intent signed by the KGHM Polska Miedź Group (KGHM) and the Territorial Defence Forces (WOT). KGHM has also recently established cooperation with the Cyberspace Defence Forces and the Centre for Veteran Activities beyond the State Borders.
As announced, the purpose of the agreement between KGHM and WOT is cooperation in strengthening the defence capabilities of the Republic of Poland, as well as promotional support for the activities of the Territorial Defence Forces. The parties will collaborate, among other things, on training WOT military units with KGHM departments. Among other things, safety-related activities are planned, including medical rescue.
The copper company and the military will also co-organise and participate in ceremonies and educational projects for local communities.
KGHM CEO Tomasz Zdzikot stressed that defence and security issues are also key for KGHM today.
“It is worth emphasising that among the soldiers of the Territorial Defence Forces are also our employees. This cooperation, on the one hand, gives us new perspectives for development, and on the other hand, touches upon the most important values and ethics”, said Zdzikot.
Col. Krzysztof Stańczyk, acting commander of the Territorial Defence Forces, noted that the cooperation between the WOT and KGHM will primarily have a training dimension.
“It will also include the exchange of experience, and in particular building awareness in the context of threats to the company’s strategic infrastructure”, said Col Stańczyk.
KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is a strategic company, one of the largest Polish state-owned corporations, one of the world’s leading producers of copper and refined silver. It conducts technologically advanced exploration, mining, and smelting activities.
