Wrocław Airport has summed up the year 2023. The past 12 months have been particularly successful for Wrocław Airport. The number of travellers doubled compared to the previous year and came very close to that of the record-breaking year 2019. Also, carriers were keen to launch new connections from Wrocław.
In total, for the whole of 2022, Wrocław Airport recorded air traffic of 2.9 million passengers, a 102 % increase on 2021 and only 19 % less than in the record year 2019, when 3.5 million passengers used the airport.
Almost 28,000 aircraft operations were made in the last 12 months, 48 % higher than in 2021 and 15 % lower than in 2019. Carriers launched new routes to Croatia, Italy, Spain, the Greek islands and Cyprus.
“Air traffic has approached pre-pandemic levels. In the middle of the year, we expected passenger traffic at the level of 2.5 million passengers, but the holiday months, as well as a good autumn, allowed us to close the year with an unexpectedly high number of nearly 2.9 million passengers”, says Dariusz Kuś, CEO of Wrocław Airport.
The year 2022 marks a change in travel trends. Passengers were much more likely to choose typical holiday destinations, opting for low cost offers and charters. Therefore, last year definitely belonged to low-cost flights. Traffic in this sector stood at 1.8 million passengers, an increase of nearly 120 % compared to 2021.
“Travellers this year opted for shorter but more frequent trips. Low-cost flights to the southern regions of Europe were particularly popular, with the number of travellers to Italy or Greece doubled if compared to even 2019”, points out Dariusz Kuś.
The best months in terms of passenger numbers were holidays. The highest traffic was recorded in August, with more than 370,000 people using the offer of Wrocław Airport.
