The FakeHunter-Edu campaign is addressed to students and teachers in secondary schools and the adult part of society. Its goal is to fight disinformation and learn to be critical of content published on social media and the Internet.
In response to the need to fight disinformation, the Ministry of Education and Science (MEiN), GovTech Polska, the Educational Research Institute and the Polish Press Agency are implementing a nationwide information campaign called FakeHunter-Edu.
As part of the initiative, there will be video materials on fake news, lesson plans and practical exercises.
According to MEiN, during the classes, students will learn how to consciously use social media, what mechanisms are behind the creation of fake news, who and for what purpose produces and distributes fakes, and how to deal with them.
The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to the phenomenon of disinformation and deepen knowledge about fake news, as well as to present tools that will allow students to make informed and rational decisions in a virtual space.
Fake news travels six times faster than real news. The probability of their availability is 70% higher.
The Ministry of Education and Science points out that the phenomenon of disinformation can be counteracted by an active civil society. It is important to build awareness of the true intentions of fake news authors, which has a direct impact on individual and collective decisions and actions.
The video training will be available free of charge to all Internet users in a special tab at https://fakehunter.pap.pl/. Here you can also read the fact-checking reports. The FakeHunter website has been running for over two years and has verified over 2,000. fake news.
