The 27th Days of Remembrance of Galician Jews Galicjaner Shtetl were held in Tarnów from 12 to 19 June. The event was accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, performances, walks and meetings.
On Sunday, June 12, the “Extermination of European Jews” exhibition was opened at the Old Synagogue Square in Tarnów, and then visitors interested in history went for a walk “In the footsteps of the Tarnów ghetto”.
The main celebrations took place on the weekend of June 17-19. On Friday, June 17, at the “Buczyna” Memorial Site in Zbylitowska Góra, a ceremony to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust took place.
On the same day, Witold Stachnik’s photo exhibition “Hasidim” was opened at Żydowska Street. There was also a concert “Ukraine for Tarnow”, with Larysa and Leonid Krasavin and Alina Didenko.
On Saturday, June 18, instrumental workshops with Yale Strom took place at the Multimedia Art Center.
On Sunday, June 19, visitors visited the Jewish cemetery.
In front of the gate at 6 Waryński Street, the actors of the Tarnów Theater read excerpts from Mikołaj Łoziński’s “Stramer”, a book about a poor Jewish family living in Tarnów in the interwar period.
In the evening, the “Sabbath Supper” began with the participants of the Occupational Therapy Workshop in Wola Rzędzińska. The culmination of this year’s Galicjaner Shtetl was the concert “Hawa Nagila”, in which the SOLski Choir performed.
The Galician Jews Memorial Days were also accompanied by other exhibitions. On the Market Square, there was an exhibition “Poles saving Jews”, in the square next to the Multimedial Art Center (MCA)- an exhibition devoted to the Reinchardt Action, and in the MCA basement- an exhibition “Jewish Tarnów inspires”.
