For the eighth time, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews is organizing the GEOP Doctoral Seminar devoted to the history and culture of Polish Jews. Since 2015, the seminar has helped young scientists as a forum for presenting new and interesting research, inspiring discussions and methodological reflection on Polish-Jewish studies. Applications are accepted until September 30.
The seminar aims to integrate researchers from various academic centers and research institutions in Poland and enable them to contact outstanding specialists from Poland and abroad. It takes place in the form of monthly meetings at the POLIN Museum in Warsaw.
The invitation to participate in the seminar is addressed to anthropologists, ethnographers, Hebrewists, historians, art historians, Yiddish scientists, religious scholars, literary scholars, social psychologists, sociologists and adepts of other sciences currently preparing doctoral dissertations on the history and culture of Polish Jews at national scientific institutions. PhD students will have the opportunity to present the results of their research to members of the Scientific Council, promoters and participants of POLIN Museum research visits.
The museum finances travel costs to Warsaw for non-local participants of the seminar (doctoral students and their supervisors). For the five best-rated PhD students in the application process, a financial gratification of up to PLN 1000 gross per month is provided for the entire duration of the seminar. The application results will be announced in mid-October 2022, and the first meeting is scheduled for November.
The doctoral seminar on the history and culture of Polish Jews as part of the Global Education Outreach Program was established in September 2015 by representatives of leading Jewish study centers in Poland and the POLIN Museum. From the first seminar, it has been a forum for presenting new and interesting research, interdisciplinary discussions and methodological reflection on Polish-Jewish studies.
