Polish President Andrzej Duda appealed for finding a solution to avoid war at a conference in Berlin ahead of the meeting in the Weimar Triangle format with the participation of the leaders of Poland, France and Germany. On Tuesday, February 8, Polish President Andrzej Duda, French President Emanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz talked about security in the region of Central and Eastern Europe in the face of the threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

President Duda emphasized “The most important thing today is unity and solidarity. We have to show that we speak with one voice, that we are a community and that our will cannot be broken. We also have to show that we will take no step back. We leave no one because of the fear that we may not be able to obtain peace”.

President Duda commented that the task of the Weimar Triangle states is “to ensure peace for our societies and nations, to protect international law, and to protect territorial integrity, including countries that are not members of the European Union or NATO, but are our allies”.

The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, emphasized that further violation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine is unacceptable and would have far-reaching consequences for Russia in political, economic and probably also geostrategic terms.

“During this six-month period, France took the presidency of the Council of the European Union, Poland leads the OSCE, and Germany the G7 group. Thus, we three bear a special responsibility for global issues of European security” – emphasized Scholz.

President Macron declared that the leaders of the Weimar Triangle will continue to work together for de-escalation in the coming weeks. “We want to be united and work with Russia to limit any escalation opportunities and to implement a system that will ensure security and peace in Europe”, stated the President of France.

On Thursday, February 10, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will arrive in Poland. According to the Reuters agency, the British Prime Minister will meet President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Their talks will focus on the situation in Ukraine.
