The US Army has signed agreements worth $1.5 billion with nine companies. Among the signatories to the agreement is Poland’s Zakłady Chemiczne Nitro-Chem S.A. The agreement is related to a planned increase in the production of munitions for Ukraine, the Bydgoszcz-based company said.
The US orders are related to the increased production of 155mm calibre artillery ammunition to be supplied to Ukrainian forces fighting Russia, which are struggling with massive ammunition consumption in combat. The explosive required for the assumed production of the ammunition is TNT, of which Zakłady Chemiczne “Nitro-Chem” S.A. is a key supplier to the US Army. The contract will be implemented between 2023 and 2026.
Bydgoszcz-based Nitro-Chem S.A. is one of the companies comprising the Polish Armaments Group. It is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of explosives, including TNT, which is needed for the production of ammunition. According to Nitro-Chem, the company is developing its presence in international markets outside the US – including Bulgaria, Spain, France, Sweden, Portugal, Finland, Scandinavia and Asian countries.
“Our company is one of the world leaders in the production of combatants. This is also appreciated by the world’s largest army, which is the United States. This is confirmed by the fact that we have been supplying ammunition of various types and calibres for its needs for many years”, points out the Director of Trade and Marketing, Karol Borys.
In the opinion of the Nitro-Chem authorities, the currently concluded contract is not only a financial gain for the company, but also a guarantee of employment for the staff and a strengthening of the position on the difficult international market for ammunition manufacturers.
