Minister of National Defence Mariusz Blaszczak announced signing of a contract for the MQ-9A Reaper unmanned reconnaissance system. It is currently the world’s most advanced long-range drone, which can also be used for precision attacks on ground targets. It is used by the armies of the US, France and the UK, as well as many other countries that are allies of Washington.
“A further investment in Poland’s security. We have signed a contract to lease the MQ-9A Reaper unmanned reconnaissance system for the Polish Army. This is a bridging solution. We will use it until we acquire our own unmanned reconnaissance system”, wrote minister Blaszczak on Twitter.
In June this year, retired US Air Force General David Deptula said that drones and other unmanned systems have, among other things, a very important role in the war in Ukraine.
‘Unmanned drones are a key tool because they allow for the collection of important data and for reconnaissance, while also allowing for precision strikes. And all of this in one platform, which gives great advantages”, said Deptula.
US MQ-9A Reaper aircraft have been flying over Poland since March 2019. They are used to control our eastern borders. Their base in Poland is Mirosławiec, where the reconnaissance unit of the Operational Expeditionary Group, part of the 52nd Fighter Air Wing of the US, is stationed.
On Wednesday, Minister of National Defence Mariusz Blaszczak approved a contract for the supply of K239 Chunmoo multi-launchers. This is another armament that will reach Poland from South Korea.
“Later this year, 24 K9 howitzers and 10 K2 tanks will arrive in Poland. They left yesterday and are being transported to our country”, said the head of the Ministry of Defence.
