President Andrzej Duda met in Rzeszów with the UN Secretary General, Antoni Guterres, returning from talks in Moscow. According to the head of the International Policy Bureau of the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, Jakub Kumoch, the president declared Poland’s readiness to support the humanitarian efforts of the United Nations.

Jakub Kumoch pointed out that this was Antonio Guterres’ first conversation after his Tuesday meetings in Moscow with the Russian president Vladimir Putin and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.

“The first opportunity to tell Poland, an important country in the peace process, how it is perceived in Russia and what is really on the table at this point in the negotiation process. Straight from Poland, the Secretary-General will travel to Ukraine”, said the presidential minister.

Kumoch emphasized that Poland is an ally of Ukraine, not only through accepting a large number of refugees but also as a country that strives to establish peace in that country as soon as possible.

“Of course, this is not peace at all costs. It is a peace that takes into account the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine. President Duda always emphasized it repeating it during this conversation”, emphasized the head of the International Policy Bureau of the President’s Chancellery.

He also assessed that the mission of the UN Secretary-General was courageous, aimed at alleviating the suffering of Mariupol’s civilian population.

“Of course, Poland has declared its readiness to support such efforts for example, by offering hospital places for the injured, who would be taken out if the evacuation had taken place successfully”, Kumoch noted.

The minister also informed that Andrzej Duda from Rzeszów was going to Prague, where he would meet the prime minister and president of this country and later, he is planning a similar visit to other countries in the region, and an extraordinary summit of the Bucharest Nine in Bucharest is also planned.
