Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Huta Stalowa Wola announced the signing of a contract for the sale of weapons to Ukraine. The contract includes the delivery of 56 Krab howitzers, and its value is estimated at approximately PLN 3 billion. “This is the largest arms export contract in the last thirty years”, stressed the head of the government.
Prime Minister Morawiecki said that the potential of the Polish defense industry is very large, which is particularly visible in Stalowa Wola. He stated that Stalowa Wola Ironworks are one of the pearls in the crown of the arms industry, although – as he pointed out – there is still a lot to do here.
“But we are glad that we have the opportunity to sell our weapons abroad today. Now we are signing one of the largest, if not the largest arms export contract for the last thirty years”, Morawiecki announced at the conference. He added that the funds for the purchase of cannon-howitzers by Ukraine are allocated partly from the EU and partly from the Ukrainian budget.
The Prime Minister declared that the highest priority of the government is security – that is why the government is introducing a program of multi-billion investments in state-of-the-art weapons.
“The best weapon for the Polish is a modern, effective and Polish”, said Mateusz Morawiecki and added that Polish weapons are now highly valued.
“Grot, Piorun, Krab are the types of weapons that we are asked for today, asked to sell them, and we do it because we know that they are indispensable on the modern battlefield. And not so long ago many “wise men” kept saying: “why do we need these tanks; they are not necessary” he reminded.
He emphasized that he was proud that the Polish defense industry was adding its own, substantial contribution to the modernization program of the Polish army.
“And in order for the army to be really modernized, it has to be based on many types of weapons, and also on its own industry, its own technical thought, as it is happening now” – he said.
