Adults with disabilities will receive more support. The social pension for people who are totally unable to work due to disability will be increased to the minimum wage. This solution is envisaged by a civic draft amendment to the Social Pension Act. The draft was submitted to the Sejm in the previous term, but only now has been submitted for the first reading. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stressed from the Sejm’s floor that the government would work hard to ensure that the legislation comes into force as soon as possible.
Currently, the social pension is PLN 1588.44. The draft assumes an increase in the social pension to the level of the minimum wage. The latter is to be PLN 4242 gross from 1 January 2024, and is to be PLN 4300 gross from 1 July. This means that the social pension will increase by more than PLN 2,700 gross.
A civic draft of amendments to the Social Pension Act was submitted to the Sejm of the previous term in March 2023. However, it was not considered then. Therefore, the Sejm of the current term referred it to the first reading.
“Parents of people with disabilities, they are not the weakest social group. They are the strongest social group”, the Prime Minister assured. Donald Tusk’s government fully supports the proposed change.
“Thanks to you, dear carers, dear parents of the disabled, Poland is a little better. Thanks to you, everything that is happening in Poland is more beautiful. Thank you very, very much once again. And I promise – just as we stood by you when the authorities turned their backs on you, we will work hard and diligently to ensure that this law for which you have been waiting becomes a reality as soon as possible”, said Donald Tusk, adding that “those who are the weakest, the disadvantaged, who have so often been despised by the authorities, today have their time, their day”.
