Lem’s Galaxy, a multimedia narrative service by the Polish Radio in which Internet users are guided by the writer himself, has been nominated for the ‘Prix Europa 2022’ and ‘Prix Italia 2022’ awards. Lem’s Galaxy has already been recognised by Polish internet users. The website was awarded in the Mobile Trends Awards 2021 in the category ‘Mobile website/RWD – Culture and education’.
The ‘Lem’s Galaxy’ website consists of Stanisław Lem’s most important works, a biography of the writer and the secrets of his workshop.
“We guide the reader through a virtual planetary system. Each subsequent planet is another chapter of the adventure in Stanisław Lem’s world. We have a planet concerning unknown facts from the writer’s life, as well as a planet with his most important works”, says Izabella Mazurek, co-author of the service and head of the Special Services and Archives Editorial Team at Informacyjna Agencja Radiowa.
Lem’s Galaxy was created especially on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the writer’s birth, which we celebrated last year. The axis of the service’s narrative is the voice of Stanisław Lem, recorded in the radio archives and not available since the on-air broadcast. For the benefit of foreign admirers of Lem’s work, the website has also been prepared in English at LemGalaxy.com.
In addition to the most important information about the life and work of one of the most eminent authors of science fiction, the website contains a premiere browser game based on the motifs of The Tales of the Robots.
Lem is the most translated Polish writer, and at one time was the most widely read non-English SF writer. His books have been translated into more than 40 languages and have reached a total print run of more than 30 million copies. His works deal with topics such as the development of science and technology, human nature, the possibility for intelligent beings to communicate, or the place of humans in the Universe. Lem’s works contain references to the state of contemporary society and scientific and philosophical reflections on it.
