TAURON to construct the largest photovoltaic farm in Poland in Mysłowice

by DignityNews.eu

The photovoltaic panels installed at the photovoltaic farm in Mysłowice will ultimately have a capacity of 100 MW being the largest such installation in Poland. The farm will be located in a reclaimed combustion waste landfill. The investment will be implemented thanks to funds obtained from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

The PV farm will be built in two stages: in the first stage, approximately 37 MW will be put into operation, the second stage provides for the construction of an installation with a capacity of approximately 60 MW. The construction of the first stage will be co-financed by the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment.

Artur Michałowski, an acting CEO of TAURON Polska Energia, said that the use of post-industrial areas belonging to the Group for the construction of photovoltaic farms is one of the main directions of New Green Power policy in TAURON’s production mix. The company launched the first such farm in Jaworzno, today it is starting the investment in Mysłowice on a much larger scale.  TAURON is consistently implementing its Green Return strategy, and thanks to such undertakings, will achieve 1.6 GW of installed capacity in renewable energy sources in 2025.

Works on the investment premises will start in the first quarter of 2022. About 94,000 photovoltaic panels will be installed in Mysłowice on a total area of 16 ha which corresponds to as many as 22 football pitches. It is estimated that the installation will produce 39 GWh of green energy, which is equal to the annual needs of 16000 households, reducing CO2 emissions by almost 30 thousand tonnes. The first electricity will be generated by the farm in 2023.

Sebastian Gola, president of TAURON Generation emphasizes that the farm in Mysłowice is another implementation of the program for the construction of photovoltaic power plants in post-industrial areas belonging to the TAURON Group. Thanks to this approach, post-industrial areas will be redeveloped. In this case, the use of post-industrial land for the construction of a green energy source is an additional environmental advantage.

The first stage is the construction of an installation with a capacity of approximately 37 MW. For its implementation, TAURON will receive PLN 82.5 million of an interest-free loan with the possibility of redemption of up to PLN 24 million of eligible costs. The contract for co-financing from the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020 was concluded with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

Currently, TAURON has three industrial solar power plants with a capacity of 19 MW: Choszczno I and Choszczno II with a total capacity of 14 MW and Jaworzno with a capacity of 5 MW.
