Tauron increased its wind power capacity to 400 MW. The company has launched the Piotrków farm

The Tauron Group has launched a 30-megawatt wind farm in the municipalities of Wolbórz and Moszczenica. This is Tauron’s tenth wind power plant, whose total installed capacity in this technology has reached 410 MW.

Tauron’s strategy is to have 1,600 megawatts of wind, photovoltaic and hydro capacity in 2025, and by 2030 their total capacity will increase to 3,700 MW. This is expected to account for around 80 % of the Group’s total generation mix, currently based mostly on hard coal.

The recently launched Piotrków wind farm, located 10 km from Piotrków Trybunalski, will meet the energy needs of 35,000 households. The power plant consists of 15 123-metre high wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW. The expected average annual energy production from the installation is estimated at around 90.1 GWh. Construction of the farm took more than a year and a half.

“Piotrków is the tenth wind farm operating in the Tauron Group, three more projects are currently being implemented. We are planning to double our wind power holdings by 2025, and in 2030 we want to already have 1,100 MW installed in this technology”, said Tauron’s president Paweł Szczeszek.

Tauron now has 10 wind farms in Piotrków, Zagórze, Wicko, Marszewo, Lipniki, Śniatowo, Mogilno, Inowrocław, Dobrzyń and Gołdap, where electricity is generated by 182 wind turbines with a total capacity of 410 MW. In June this year, Tauron purchased the Mierzyn wind farm project in the West Pomeranian province. With this investment, the Group will increase its wind capacity by almost 60 MW.

At the beginning of October, the company announced an investment with a total capacity of 20 MW in Nowa Brzeźnica in the Łódzkie voivodeship. Energy for 19,000 households will be flowing from there at the beginning of 2025. The installation will consist of nine wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.2 MW.
