TAURON expands into fibre-optic internet market

by Dignity News
25,000 households are already benefiting from the internet from TAURON a result of the implementation of the open fibre-optic network commercialisation plan. Due to its densification, the network covers already 126 thousand households in 900 localities. TAURON is the only energy group implementing the construction of a fibre-optic network within the framework of the Operational Programme Digital Poland (POPC).

„More than 25,000 households are already using superfast internet on TAURON’s network. We are constantly working on increasing the awareness of local communities of the investment we have made – which translates into increased interest in high-speed Internet access”, explains Paweł Szczeszek, President of the TAURON Group.  “We want as many local people as possible to benefit from access to broadband. This is an important element in the digital development of the whole country”, adds Szczeszek.

At the end of 2022, TAURON, in accordance with the adopted schedule, completed the construction of fibre-optic infrastructure in the last of the seven competition areas within the POPC project. To date, framework agreements have been concluded with 60 telecommunications operators. Already 27 of them are actively providing services on TAURON’s network.

The implementation of the POPC competition areas was the beginning of TAURON’s activities in the wholesale telecommunications market. The completion of construction was followed by the next stage of investment – commercial densification of the network.

This step is a response to the expectations of benefiting operators and residents who are interested in being connected to the fibre. As a result of these activities, TAURON’s fibre-optic network already covers over 126,000 households in almost 900 towns and cities.

Leszek Chwalik, vice-president of TAURON Client Service, convinces that the built infrastructure allows a greater number of households to be connected than in that originally included in the POPC project.
